Henry Wotton, Anglo-Cantianus, youngest son of that excellent man Thomas, was elevated to the rank of Knighthood by the Most Serene James I, King of Great Britain, etc. He served the same monarch three times as Ordinary Ambassador to the Venetian Republic; once to the States of the United Provinces regarding the Jülich affair; twice to Charles Emmanuel, Duke of Savoy; once to the United Princes of Upper Germany at the Assembly of Heilbronn; and finally, as Ambassador Extraordinary to Archduke Leopold, the Duke of Württemberg, the Imperial Cities of Strasbourg and Ulm, and to the Roman Emperor Ferdinand II himself. At last, he learned this:
