Julius Caesar Scaliger first keenly elicited various things, especially the series of his thoughts; although he is often impeded by empty disputes. Also, being overly deprived of the knowledge of herbs, he perturbs the things which the author observed more subtly, then refutes and castigates them. He brings forward certain subtle conjectures. His Animadversiones in Historias Theophrasti were published at the house of Joanna, daughter of Jac. Giunta, Lyon, 1584. 8vo.
Added at the end are the annotations of Robertus Constantinus, who brought few things, but those very acute, and generally corrects the text with most fortunate success, and corrects Gaza’s version. Moreover, he is apt and concise in his words.
