The most learned I. F. M. Herbell shared with me a copy of the Sanctandrean edition of the Ancient Astronomers, which formerly belonged to Petrus Burmann the Younger, in the margin of which various readings are noted, both of the text of Germanicus and of the old Latin scholiast. I gratefully acknowledge the benevolence of this most excellent man, by which he wished to assist my work in emending the Aratea of Germanicus; I must, however, warn that those various readings, as far as they pertain to the text of Germanicus, were excerpted from the notes of Grotius; as for the emendations of the Latin scholiast, one gains little or nothing from them in individual passages or words. This volume was already nearly printed when there were brought into the Göttingen Academic Library copies of the Morellian edition of the Aratea
