remove the receiver and throw away what remains in the vessel. Whatever has been distilled, distill it again, taking two parts from it, and throw away what remains in the vessel as before. The third part, which has passed, you will distill, and take a little less than the whole from it. In this way, you will have perfectly rectified spirit or animal mercury, with which you can "kill" (remove the active force of) your earth that remained above. Thus you will have our most noble eagle, with which so many wonders can be performed in all true alchemical works. I will also teach you here how you must "kill" your earth, which remained with you through our eagle, with which wonders can also be done in particulars, but for our work, it is not necessary; our eagle alone suffices.

Take, therefore, that fused dregs, or rather the fused earth, and pour over it so much of the aforementioned animal spirit that it sits 4 fingers high. Close the vessel with its seal using gummed wax so that it does not breathe. Afterward, shake the urinal vessel so that the spirit is joined and incorporated, and the earth joined to the spirit is better dissolved. Place it into natural putrefaction for two days. Then, having removed the seal and with speed attached the alembic and receiver, distill it through ashes. Beware of the smoke when you open the vessel, for they are very powerful spirits. Therefore, once all the spirit has passed through distillation, increase the fire so that the soul is imprinted into the distilled water, and then increase the fire again by degrees until another salt or sulfur is sublimed, until it no longer sublimes. With the glass cold, collect the sublimate, which you will place with the animated spirit recently distilled. Afterward, extract the hard and burned matter remaining in the vessel, grind it, pour the spirit in again, and with the vessel closed, distill the animated spirit through the alembic in ashes.
