...the darkness, so that its understanding is locked as if in a dark prison that contains no thorough knowledge; that is, despair, so that it is without any comfort in pure suffering and misery, unless it turns back toward the light into the image of God, in which all the evil of the elements must serve for the best, where even the poison must Mark 16:17-18 be a medicine for life. For faith, which is a heavenly light, changes all poison into the highest medicine.
The 4 flames, however, of which this alphabetical number consists, signify the 4 central $Δ$ (Triangles), which are the primum motor (first mover) of this number of qualities, which were ignited in grimness and wrath through the fall of the creature into sin.
And although this letter looks toward the darkness, I will nevertheless indicate some mysteries concerning the light, because I have mentioned that even evil must serve the good. Thus, this Hebrew square shows that the 4 central $Δ$ (Triangles) have the power of the 4 grim qualities to lift earthly heaviness upward through their drive, and thus make it equal to the spirit. This heaviness, made spiritual when it has become a letter with the spirit in the new birth, is then the true instrument and square by which everything must be measured and weighed again through the 4 $Δ$ for the new birth and the casting off of darkness, thereby reducing it correctly into the spermatic essence of the 4 central $Δ$.
