and you have strengthened it with laws, so that it cannot easily be shaken by any corruptions. By that most laudable example of your diligence, you have provided an opportunity for other Republics to take similar care. You have invited sincere physicians to love you and to value you highly. I declare myself not the least of the admirers of your institution, which, so that I may not merely proclaim it in words, I also confirm with another argument; I offer to you this work of my intellect, however slender it may be, containing primarily two treatises, partly opposed to the depraved fantasy of the Paracelsians, and partly producing a delight in questions for those who are studious of abstruse matters. I have added to them an accurate examination of the Amuualdian Panacea, so that it may appear with what artifice its author has kept the minds of many in the vicinity captive. Favor these attempts at defending and explaining the truth, and do not judge what I offer by the dignity of the thing itself, but by the excellence of your praises, by which I was impelled to come to you.
