Preface.

earnest request to the Doctor, that he might graciously and kindly accept this beautiful maiden Pandora and be her Epimetheus, so that she might not fall into the murderer's pit at this time, when there is almost no more trust, even among intimate friends. I also pray furthermore from the bottom of my heart that he may continue to support me and my studia Medica medical studies, as he has until now.

If the Master does this (as I indeed have no doubt he will), he shall find me obligated to him for the rest of my life. I hereby faithfully commend the Master to Divine protection. In Basel, the first of September, Anno 1588.
