THAT WHICH IS TRUE, WITHOUT FALSEHOOD,
IS CERTAIN & MOST TRUE,
THAT WHICH IS BELOW, IS LIKE
THAT WHICH IS ABOVE; & THAT WHICH IS ABOVE
IS LIKE THAT WHICH IS BELOW: TO PERPETRATE
THE MIRACLES OF ONE THING. AND JUST AS ALL THINGS
HAVE BEEN FROM THE MEDITATION OF ONE; SO ALL THINGS
HAVE BEEN BORN FROM THIS ONE THING, BY ADAPTATION. ITS FATHER IS THE SUN, ITS MOTHER THE
MOON; THE WIND HAS CARRIED IT IN ITS BELLY; ITS NURSE IS THE EARTH.
IT IS THE FATHER OF ALL THE TELESMA Greek term for "perfect" or "consecrated" work. OF THE WHOLE WORLD.
ITS POWER IS INTEGRAL, IF IT HAS BEEN TURNED INTO EARTH. YOU WILL SEPARATE
EARTH FROM FIRE, THE SUBTLE FROM THE THICK, GENTLY WITH GREAT INGENUITY. IT ASCENDS
FROM EARTH TO HEAVEN, AND AGAIN DESCENDS TO EARTH, & RECEIVES THE POWER
OF THE SUPERIORS AND INFERIORS. THUS YOU WILL HAVE THE GLORY OF THE WHOLE WORLD: THEREFORE WILL FLEE
FROM YOU ALL OBSCURITY. THIS IS OF ALL STRENGTH THE STRENGTH OF STRENGTH,
BECAUSE IT WILL CONQUER EVERY SUBTLE THING & PENETRATE EVERY SOLID THING. THUS THE WORLD
WAS CREATED. HENCE WILL BE THE MIRACULOUS ADAPTATIONS, THE MODE OF WHICH IS THIS. THEREFORE
I HAVE BEEN CALLED HERMES TRISMEGISTUS, HAVING THREE PARTS OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE WHOLE WORLD.
THAT WHICH I HAVE SAID CONCERNING THE OPERATION OF THE SUN IS COMPLETE.
Truthful, that which is BELOW is like that which is ABOVE /
in order that one may attain and perform Miracles or wonders
[... ] ALL THINGS FROM ONE THING ALONE are fashioned /
contemplated; thus sprout and come ALL THINGS from
the joining of one. THE SUN is his FATHER and
[... ] carry in his belly: His NURSE or wet-nurse
[... ] the NURSING of this whole world HIS POWER
[... ] EARTH. So you shall separate the earth from FIRE / and
[... ] with great modesty and understanding. It rises from the
[... ] EARTH, and thus gains the power of the Superiors and
[... ] TIME OF THE WHOLE WORLD. Therefore flee from you
[... ] STRENGTH the STRENGTH [of] STRENGTH, for it can
[... ] it. THUS THE WORLD IS CREATED. Hence [arise]
[... ] [various] WONDERS performed; which way the same
[... ] MES TRISMEGISTUS, having three parts of the WISD[OM]
[... ] said have concerning the WORK OF THE SUN.
[When] I was lifted up to the HEAVENLY things; [beyond] the boundaries of the body, just as those... [who] are weighed down: suddenly I seemed to see a certain immense greatness... [what] is it, O Mercury, that you desire to both HEAR & SEE? What [are]... things, I say: I am, said He, PIMANDER, the MIND of DIVINE POWER... [I] desire, I say, to LEARN the NATURE of THINGS, to KNOW GOD... [AND] I WILL INSTRUCT YOU IN ALL THINGS, WHICH YOU WISH. When [he] had said [this, the vision was finished]. Let it be to each faithful son of DOCTRINE. AMEN.
An allegorical alchemical engraving. The right portion of the page shows a rugged mountain landscape. In the center, a waterfall cascades from a dark cavern, powering a waterwheel. Men are depicted working around the wheel and on a wooden walkway. Two swans swim in the pool formed by the waterfall at the bottom. To the right, high jagged peaks tower, with a small building visible in a recess. In the far distance, a gap in the mountains reveals a city with gothic spires. A bird flies in the sky above the waterfall.
