great treasure of the Red Lion, he must be able to draw the suns out of the mountains, and extinguish them in their heat with lion’s blood; so will the great secret work increase in strength, so that you will accomplish wonders with it.
You should also be secretive, set your heart with prayer to God in heaven; there your Red Lion will green with the most beautiful blue in the greatest heartiness, for that is the treasure in the world, to which nothing is equal to the eternal. He has everything in him: health and wealth and all-penetrating power. And I tell you, this Red Lion tears apart everything that is imperfect and makes it entirely perfect again in the highest degree, both man and the metals—take note of that. And these gifts are not only mostly despised, but also quite misused; therefore, the eternal God does not let many powerful arts and treasures be revealed in this world for the sake of ingratitude.
Take a strong spirit of wine original: "Sp. Vini", which has been distilled through seven-fold paper. To one measure of this, pour four lots a unit of weight, roughly 1/2 ounce of that which has previously been purely extracted in a flask. Acolyze this spirit of wine with * to dissolve the gold; putrefy [it] sealed for four days and nights in a very mild water bath original: "Balneo M.". Afterward, distill it again through five-fold Benedictine paper; thus the spirit of wine will be ready for dissolution.
So begin now. Take from Hungary the fixed coagulant, that is, ☉ gold mirror, as it is to be found among the goldsmiths, eight lots; put that into a flask, pour the spirit of wine over it so that it covers it well, set it, well sealed, into the water bath to putrefy for eight days and nights with very mild warmth; then distill the spirit off from it until it is oily, very mildly. Afterward, pour a fresh spirit of wine onto it, as much as you have drawn off; let it putrefy for eight days, and draw the spirit off mildly again; and for the third time, pour a fresh spirit of wine onto the oiliness and putrefy for eight days; then distill per latus a method of distillation by side-tube subtilely; so everything will rise over as a spiritual, moist work. Let that rest until it settles. Then the wateriness should be carefully poured off subtilely, and wash the matter a few times; then it is ready for coagulation. Now put the work, thus entirely dry, into a round vial, sealed well with the Seal of Hermes original: "Sigillo Hermetis", or otherwise with good lute original: "Luto", set it into the regiment of fire in subtile, sifted ashes, boiled with constant mild warmth until it shows itself as a fixed and incombustible stone, like a red ruby; so you have the lion, quite beautiful and perfect.
