Expect nothing else in this work that is foreign to the authors: for these are their very own words; I have added absolutely nothing of my own. Only the labor in researching, the sleepless nights in compiling, and the zeal in arranging and organizing are mine. I had indeed collected these things for my own benefit and for easier use; however, I was moved by compassion for those who seek such sublime matter, especially since Scylla [occupies] the right side original: "Dextrum Scylla"; this is the beginning of a reference to the classical myth of Scylla and Charybdis. It suggests that the path to alchemical truth is narrow and fraught with dangers or "monsters" on either side that can lead a seeker astray.
