Although many very learned men have handed down and recorded many things about this metal or mineral, namely QUICKSILVER, in their writings here and there, yet none of them, as far as we know, has appeared until now who has dared to address this matter in a full and solid professional manner in a specific commentary. Rather, it is certain that most things that are read among them concerning this kind of subject are either too restricted and concise, or are completely lacking and imperfect, and furthermore, have little of methodical arrangement or clarity, but instead have a great deal of confusion and obscurity, and do not satisfy the mind of the eager Reader or fulfill his desire.
