A wide rectangular woodcut headpiece ornament features symmetrical scrolling acanthus leaves, flowers, and two central circular medallions.
The following content is organized with a series of large curly brackets. A main bracket on the left groups the four chapters (Libri) together under the introductory text.
This treatise, detecting and refuting the errors of Mersenne, is divided into 4 Books. Of which:
A large brace on the left groups the following four sections (Prioris caput to Quarti caput).
Chapter of the First
A bracket on the right groups the next four points, followed by the words "defends the Fluddian."
First: Defends the Fluddian Physics concerning the Macrocosm.
Second: Defends his Harmony.
Third: Defends his Consonances.
Fourth: Shows that the opinions of Fludd are not new, and his doctrine is most remote from atheism.
The Second: Discusses that famous question, whether there is a soul of the world: And finally clearly demonstrates that there is a soul of the world, by which he is said to live.
Chapter of the Third
A bracket on the left groups the next four points.
First: Removes all suspicion of evil magic from Fludd. Likewise, it assigns a triple genius to every human being. And it demonstrates most clearly that names can be attributed to angels from their property without any error or sin.
Second: Shows that the soul can be called mortal in a certain way.
Third: Confirms the certainty of Fludd’s Microcosmic Music.
Fourth: Responds to the Chiroscopic question proposed by Mersenne, according to the merits and impudence of the petitioner.
Chapter of the Fourth
A bracket on the left groups the next two points.
First: Defends the Cabala of Fludd: and argues against Mersenne’s ignorance in it.
Second: Treats the formal characters of the Cabala: and examines Mersenne as if with a Lydian Stone.
