the concentration of metals and minerals,
where remedies of all kinds resisting natural
diseases will be taught, I know that everyone
will find comfort and help against future
plague and contagious diseases. Where,
therefore, food and drink necessary for
living, and saltpeter for defense against
enemies, and medicines serving to preserve
health have been supplied to us, there
remains nothing else that we might desire,
except for some gold and silver with which we
may exercise trade and provide ourselves
with exotic goods. That we may achieve this
from our own mines, which everywhere
occupy the mountains and are now neglected,
I trust, God granting, that I will bring this
to effect in the three following books on the
concentration of minerals and metals. For
this reason, I also wished to bring this little
book on the Concentration of things (as a
talent entrusted to me by God) to light,
rather than keep it to myself any longer,
for the honor of God and the Fatherland.
I therefore give, dedicate, and consecrate
it to all pious, faithful, and good Fathers
of Families of the Fatherland, relying on the
hope that my sincere admonition and
instruction will find a place.
