Achates Agate, First discovered in Sicily, near the river of the same name, then in other places. They are useful against the stings of spiders: and eagles place them in their nests to defend their chicks against poisonous things: they calm thirst and strengthen the vision.
In Agate, various impressions appear: Woods, Rivers, Beasts, footprints of a Wolf or Lion, as expressively carved by nature as if a Gem-cutter had done it with intent, Pliny.
Adamas Diamond, Is born both outside of gold and in most noble gold.
1. Outside of gold, a double Indian type, related in color to translucent Crystal, and of six-sided edges, tapering in a point, or with two opposite parts joined, of the size of a hazelnut kernel.
2. Arabicus, Born outside of gold, is smaller than the former.
1. Of the size of a millet grain, which they call Cenchron.
2. Macedonicus, found in Philippic gold, equal to the seeds of a cucumber.
3. Cyprius, found in Cyprus, leaning toward a bronze color, effective in medicines.
4. Sideritis, of iron-like splendor, excelling the others in weight, but unlike them in nature: this is broken by blows and can be perforated by another Diamond.
