Ætites Eagle-stone is so called by the Germans, either because of its color, or because of that virtue, that eagles cannot give birth without it: for it alleviates childbirth and retains the fetus in pregnant women when the wombs are slippery; it is a gem of various species.
Ætitis Eagle-stone, there are six species.
1. Male Ætitis, African, black in reddish, very hard, which contains white friable earth within itself.
2. Female, Hildesheim, yellow in color, soft, to which native ochre adheres, and hard yellow earth is inside.
3. Another in which the stone lies free and loose, and sounds when shaken.
4. Sub-reddish, hard, to which a stone of iron color adheres.
5. Mottechanus, similar to a human head, round, and very hard, to which quadrangular crystalline flowers in the species of diamonds, which are formed, adhere.
6. Concave stone, of iron color, found in the iron vein, in which nothing but air is contained: whoever desires to know more, let him read Ruland, pages 21, 22.
