THE WORDS OF THE SECRETS OF HERMES.

This is true, and removed from every cover of lies, that whatever is below is similar to that which is above, through which the miracles of the work of one thing are acquired and perfected. Just as also all things are made from one, through the consideration of one. So all things were made from this one through conjunction. Its father is the Sun, its mother the Moon, the wind carried it in its womb, the earth is its nurse, the mother of all perfection. Its power is perfect. If it is changed into earth, separate the earth from the fire, the subtle and thin from the coarse and thick, and indeed prudently with modesty and wisdom. This ascends into Heaven from the earth, and from Heaven it descends again to the earth, and receives the power and efficacy of the superior and inferior things. In this way you will acquire the glory of the whole world: you will therefore repel all darkness and blindness, for this fortitude seizes the palm from every other fortitude and power: for it can penetrate and subdue all things subtle and thick and hard.
