Certainly the mortal who feeds on the nourishing fruit
Of the life-giving Wood will prolong life into all
Ages, and will not feel the deadly stroke of death.
Indeed, this food is a salutary medicine for the soul,
Which with its safe sap heals the malady contracted
By the fault of Adam, and by the atrocious bite of the serpent.
Therefore, mortals, all of you, having formed a column,
Run hither, and pluck life from the Tree of life.
This provides you aid against the forces and poison of Avernus the underworld,
And heals the immedicable wound of death.
Whoever desires to ascend the spreading threshold
Of Olympus,
And to enter the kingdoms of heaven by a certain step:
Take this ladder sent down from the high ether,
Which fortifies for you a safe path to the High Ones.
These join earth to heaven with a common limit,
These stairs join mortals to God.
Behold the Supreme Being standing on the highest peak
Calling the human race with a mild mouth.
Behold the winged cohort of spirits going and returning by this
Path, and teaching us the sweet path of salvation.
