Hartmann's Steam Bath
XIII. Dr. Hartmann’s Steam Bath original: "Laconicum" is as follows: Let a square cabinet be made of boards, five feet high, two feet wide, and 4 or 5 feet long. In the upper cover, let a hole be made through which the head can emerge (using small movable boards on either side). At the bottom, place a wooden grate, and in the middle, a seat with a footstool reaching to the grate to support the feet. In the front part, let there be a small door with a glass window that can be opened and closed. On the outer sides, let iron handles be attached so it can be moved and carried. Under the grate on all four sides, let there be sliding wooden windows through which iron bowls (tin ones are consumed by vinegar) containing vinegar or burning wine High-proof alcohol/spirits can be placed. The vapor of the burning or ignited liquid can then strike the whole body of the patient placed within, except for the head. Sometimes a decoction of herbs or aromatics, as required by the specific disease, is placed inside while still boiling in a wooden pipe; its vapors can be better stimulated for sweating by the burning spirit of wine. The process is continued as long as necessary and as reason dictates.

At the base are two small drawers or doors (h) for placing bowls of liquid.

(Arsenic Rubies original: "Rubini Arsenici"; likely realgar or red arsenic glass are excellent for driving out sweat; you shall make them thus: Take any quantity of Arsenic; sublime it in a gourd-shaped vessel cucurbit without any addition three times, so that the volatile sulfur—the worst part of the arsenic—rises like a very fine powder; discard this. Grind the hard and crystalline part with an equal portion of Flowers of Sulfur on a marble slab and sublime it in a sand bath. You will receive red crystals like rubies; collect these and keep them in a well-sealed glass. They are given in doses of 3 to 8 grains with Theriac for diseases of the chest and where the lungs are blocked with "Tartareous," phlegmatic, and viscous matter.
