A detailed engraving of a library interior. High shelves packed with books line the left and right sides of the room. In the background, a central shelving unit is framed by a classical arch and topped by a semicircular window. A dark curtain is draped across the top of the scene, suspended behind a decorative, scroll-like cartouche. Inside the library, several men in eighteenth-century costumes (wigs, long coats, buckled shoes, and tricorne hats) are gathered. Some are in small groups talking, while one man on the left climbs a tall ladder to reach books on the upper shelves. In the bottom left corner of the engraved frame, the initials "M. f." appear.
