An engraving depicts an alchemical furnace, or athanor a self-feeding furnace used in alchemy. The furnace is a vertical, cylindrical structure with several distinct sections: a base with ventilation holes, a middle section with a small window showing a burning flame, and a tall, ribbed conical top. To the right of the furnace is a heavy, fringed curtain or cloth draped from the top edge. The illustration is contained within a rectangular border.
