A woodcut depicts the front cover of a historical book, bound in dark brown mottled calfskin leather. In the center is a large, ornate, gold-embossed heraldic achievement set within an oval frame of stylized acanthus leaves and scrollwork.
The coat of arms consists of a quarterly shield representing the kingdoms of England, Scotland, Ireland, and France, with a smaller central shield for the House of Nassau, which displays a lion rampant on a field scattered with rectangular billets. The main shield is encircled by the Garter of the Order of the Garter, which bears the motto "Shame on him who thinks evil of it" original: "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE".
The shield is surmounted by a royal crown and supported by two rampant lions. Below the shield is a decorative ribbon containing the motto "I will maintain" original: "JE MAINTIENDRAI", the motto of the House of Orange-Nassau. The overall design indicates this volume likely belonged to or was dedicated to King William III of England, also known as William of Orange.
