Only in one respect did the learned man (whose student I had the good fortune to be in Altdorf in 1751) err: 1) in that he believed secret orders existed as early as the times of Lullius and Paracelsus; 2) in that he went so far astray as to believe in gold-making and to recommend the Hirschian air-salt water original: "Hirſchiſche Luftſalzwafſer", * which is merely Glauber’s salt adorned with urine magma. ** Does one not have to smile when reading the good doctor’s biography, Vol. I, pp. 324—327?
