time Elector Palatine chamberlain,
government councillor and district magistrate of Oppen-
heim, later however Burggraf of
Friedberg, and SOPHIE MARIE ANNE, A BORN COUNTESS OF ELZ, under whose care he grew in age and
wisdom such that he foreshadowed that
which he should become and indeed has become
in our days and before our eyes. His natural aptitude for a rare
greatness of spirit, which one admires in him, and
his own drive for the great and sub-
lime, facilitated the care of his excellent
parents and his upbringing. Already
in his tender age he dedicated himself to the
clerical estate, in order to shine in it just as
did his great and famous
forebears, and even according to the
proportions of our times, in which science and genuine, true enlightenment flourish, to shine even
more, since those [forebears lived] in a time lacking in knowledge
