and lived in an age of darkness and restrictions regarding science and enlightenment, and one ruled by the most foolish religious bigotry, yet they have made their names famous through scholarship and achieved immortality. (4) When Karl Philipp Damian Joseph Kaemmerer of Worms, Baron of Dalberg resigned his cathedral prebend in Würzburg on June 13, 1753, Karl Theodor Kaemmerer of Worms, Baron of Dalberg was accepted in his place on February 1, 1754. (5) On April 20 of the same year, he became a canon in Mainz, and in July 1758 in Worms. All these prebends received in the spring of his life did not, like so many other hirelings, keep him from the studies to which he dedicated himself; rather, they were a spur to him,
