Johann Rudolf Zumsteeg was born on January 10, 1760, in Gausingen in the Laufenburg region.
He received his education at the ducal academy in Stuttgart under Duke Karl, and was soon known there as a man of vigor, of German sensibility and spirit, and as the best in the entire orchestra. Subsequently, he became the ducal concertmaster.
