whoever pursues these pleasures first encroaches upon the well-being and assets of his own family; if nothing more remains for his extravagance, he embezzles from his entrusted profession and seeks in this way to open new sources of aid for his dissipation. Yet infidelity does not last long; if it is recognized and discovered, his entire house of cards collapses at once. He, the spendthrift, does not like to finish his day's work without apparent courage, does not want to wander around in misery as someone disgraced and rejected, and therefore, since no other way out remains open to him, becomes a suicide. Thus can increased luxury become the cause of suicide.
