Here one might justly say and ask: to what end do they create and store such an apparatum apparatus/stockpile for themselves? Answer: The Jesuits know and understand very well that they have great enmity from both Papists and almost all people. This arises from the fact that they have not infrequently taken into their own hands and executed, in an unfair and unjust manner, many and various dealings that would not have become them. For as is notorious, they respect no person, not even their own coreligionists, but look only to how they may flatter the H. Holy Father the Pope, even if it were to result in the damage and ruin of the entire world. Furthermore, because they must also live in constant fear, they believe nothing else but that they wish to forestall their own ruin and misfortune with such war armaments. For as I have frequently understood, they fear that the same thing might happen to them as formerly
