Börner, Friedrich · 1751

Let it be permitted, therefore, to repeat certain things concerning his birth and his illustrious deeds in life before we proceed to the description of our book itself. MAGNUS HUNDT, also called Canis Dog, is said to have been born at Magdeburg, whence, according to the custom of that time, he was accustomed to call himself Parthenopolitanus original: "of the Virgin City" (a classical epithet for Magdeburg), in the year 1449, having sprung from a noble family. After he had passed out of his youth for the sake of his studies, he went to Leipzig, then as today a famous seat of the muses, and there in the year 1484 he was received among the Bachelors of Philosophy, and in the year 1487 among the Masters of Philosophy, over whom he also presided as Dean in the same year. Indeed, in the year 1499 he entered upon the highest magistracy of the Academy, and already holding the fasces a symbol of authority, he obtained from the gracious order of physicians the first honors in the art, or those of Bachelor, and at the same time a place in the College of the senior princes. Then, having been created Doctor of Medicine, he taught the art publicly, having previously been a Professor of Physics among the Philosophers. Finally, however, crossing over to the camp of the Theologians, he was distinguished by the honors of Licentiate in the fourth year of the following century, and in the fifth year following by those of Doctor of Theology. From this it also came to pass that in the year 1512 he was received into the order of the Canons of Meissen
