...and yet, because the whole globe of bodily nature, and most especially the human race, owes what survives the waters of the Flood to this very Noah after God. We may, however, without fables, call them the first, second, third, fourth, fifth month, and so on; or Quintilis, Sextilis, Septilis or September, October, November, January, Undecember, and Duodecember. But it is better to become accustomed to the sacred names, so that the month of the vernal equinox becomes one of 30 days, and they are called in order as follows: 1 Nissan, 2 Aiar, 3 Siuan, 4 Tamuz, 5 Ab, 6 Elul, 7 Tisri, 8 Chesuan, 9 Chisleu, 10 January or Noachian, 11 Sabat, 12 Adar. I understand, moreover, that the year is to be restored in such a way that January coincides with the first sign of the sun approaching us, when the days begin to grow, which will happen by intercalating those 15 days by which we now fall short of the equinox. For the calendar cannot be better corrected than by having the months and the signs always move in unison. From these twelve angelic influences of the intelligences, there were instituted 12 fathers of the law of nature, as many of the written law, and 12 of the law of grace, until there are just as many for the restitution of all things. But there are six ministers under each one, so that there result 72 various particular influences, while individual signs are divided into three groups of ten degrees, so that individual angels preside over every ten degrees toward the north, and individual ones toward the south. Therefore, there are 72 peoples after the flood, 72 souls entering Egypt, restored in the 72 elders who were students of Moses, 72 disciples of Christ, and just as many for the future Concord of the world. For so it is ordained in heaven.
