the holy Divine Scripture are of one content and mean the same thing. And what is attributed and assigned to the knowledge of Christ in the aforementioned passages of Scripture—namely, that one thereby obtains forgiveness of sins and becomes righteous and saved before God—the same is likewise assigned to faith in
Acts 10.
Christ. For Peter the apostle says: "Of this Christ all the prophets bear witness, that through his name, all who believe in him shall receive forgiveness of sins."
Romans 3.
And Paul: "So we hold that a person is made righteous without the works of the law, solely through faith." Item: "So we also believe
Galatians 2.
in Christ Jesus, so that we may be made righteous through
Ephesians 2.
faith in Christ." Item: "By grace you have been
Acts 13.
saved through faith." Item: "Whoever believes in this
Galatians 3.
Christ is righteous." Item: "The Scripture foresaw that GOD would make the Gentiles righteous through
faith." And Christ himself:
John 6.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that all who believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life." Item: "Truly, truly I say to you, whoever believes in me has eternal life."
III. What it is or means to believe in Christ
Thirdly, we must learn what it is or means to believe in Christ. And that is evident from the above-cited testimonies of Scripture and many others: namely, that to believe in Christ is and means to hold Christ as the Lord.
