XII. We should never be lazy and slothful in hearing and learning the Word of God.

Twelfth: And because through the medium of the Divine Word or the preaching of the holy Gospel, the forgiveness of sins, God's grace and mercy, the Kingdom of Heaven, and salvation are presented and offered to us, which are the highest and greatest goods that can ever encounter and befall us in this and the future life, so God also desires that one should hold the same medium in high, dear, and worthy esteem for the sake of these mentioned goods, and make use of it with great diligence, earnestness, and Christian zeal.
