letters: ANNA. So that just as he was the beginning of life as well as eternal death, she was the beginning of human Redemption, indeed the Mother of the Mother of Christ, our Redeemer and Savior. And so we see clearly that the FOURTH Number is most divine, and that GOD established the most secret and greatest Mysteries, and the beginnings of great things, in the number FOUR. And for no unequal reason, the most ancient and most Illustrious Family of the Counts of Habsburg, and the most praiseworthy Genealogy of the Austrian Emperors, Kings, and Archdukes, took its Most August Beginnings from the number FOUR, specifically from that same Name ANNA, which consists of and is written with FOUR letters. For ANNA of Hohenberg, the most noble first Wife of Rudolph the First, the most renowned Emperor (who first brought the pinnacle of Imperial dignity to this Family), bore Albert the First, the most fortunate; and ANNA the Most Noble, Daughter of the King of Poland and Hungary, Wladislaus, the most pious Wife of Ferdinand the First, the most pious Emperor, and the most fruitful Mother of FOURTEEN children, bore Maximilian the Second, the most brave, and his German brother, Charles the Fifth, the most victorious— Emperors three times excellent. Truly these were the great Mothers of the greatest Caesars, Kings, and Archdukes, who gave the greatest beginnings and increments to this most glorious Family, which to this very day, led through so many men in a most long and praiseworthy series, is now drawn out in FERDINAND THE FOURTH. For what more honorific and glorious can be thought than that the Princes and peoples of so many nations of the Christian World attribute so much Virtue, Wisdom, Greatness of spirit, moderation, and industry to this one Family, with judgments concurring for so many centuries, that they believe their liberty, life, fortunes, and safety can be safely committed to the Patronage and protection of the Archdukes of Austria? This Family surpasses the praise of all Roman and German Princes; there is none in all of Europe at this time more illustrious or more ancient, as the reliability of histories has traced it, either from Hercules or from Priam.
