An allegorical engraving depicting the transience of worldly life. At the top center, the Eye of Providence shines within a radiant sunburst. To the right, a pair of hands emerges from clouds, clutching bundles of arrows. A bird flies upward toward the light. In the background, a ship with sails unfurled traverses a sea, with a lone traveler standing on the distant shore.
The center of the composition features an ornate pedestal laden with symbols of earthly power, pleasure, and knowledge: a crown, a mirror, a lute, a trumpet, musical scores, books, a lit candle, a chalice, and a sword.
To the left, a lush, leafy tree is entwined with a banner inscribed "VANITATUM" of vanities. At its base sit a skull, an hourglass, and a vase of flowers. To the right, a barren, skeletal tree holds a banner inscribed "VANITATIS" of vanity. Beneath it, a winged putto sits on a stone, blowing soap bubbles through a pipe, a classic Homo Bulla man is a bubble motif. A small lamb rests beside the putto.
At the bottom right corner of the illustration, the engraver's signature is visible: "Ant. Horner del."
