How the person must awaken in himself his desiring spirit: and what or how his earnest contemplation and purpose shall be, whenever he wishes to work powerful repentance or improvement: and with what kind of spirit he shall step before God, whenever he wishes to ask for and receive forgiveness of sins from God.

Whenever the person wishes to step into repentance / and wishes to turn (with his prayer) to God / then he shall (before all prayers) contemplate or reflect upon his spirit: how the same stands so entirely and wholly turned away from God: how it has become unfaithful to God: how it is directed only toward the temporal / breakable / earthly life / and carries no sincere love toward God and his neighbor: and how it thus entirely listens to and battles against God's commandment / and seeks itself only in the temporal, perishable lust of the flesh.
