The First Chapter

10. Likewise, the listeners shall also incline their ears toward it, and consider that they hear the voice of Christ there, and accept it with great earnestness: not thinking, it is enough that they go to church, and hear an hour of preaching, and remain as before thereafter: no, with such going to church and hearing, no service is rendered to God, it does not improve them in so far as they have not heard Christum Christ teaching in their heart during the sermon.

11. It is also the same with the sacraments: one must not think, it is enough that one confesses [or makes confession], and approaches thereto [namely, to the Lord's Supper]; as if such use (without true repentance) took away sins, so that one might sin again thereafter anew: no, that does not happen: whoever is washed, and thereafter dirties himself again with the same uncleanness, he is as before.

12. Christus must absolve you (with His suffering and death) in your soul, and speak His satisfaction
