A certain tree is called Rhododaphne, whose leaves are poisons to quadrupeds, but protections to humans against serpents. The nature of Holy Scripture is the same: just as it offers wholesome nourishment to the sober and prudent, so it provides an occasion for heresy and even greater impiety to the foolish and the wicked.
