After the three previous volumes saw the light of day, this fourth and final one now comes into the public view and provides a record of the remaining authors. I have previously described the monuments of talent of dogmatic, symbolic, catechetical, polemical, and moral theology, as well as the ecclesiastical history of both covenants, and those things which had to be said, I divided into seven chapters. Now the two remaining follow: the eighth concerning writings of exegetical theology and the ninth concerning homiletical books.
In the eighth chapter of this volume, I have set forth the works, books, pamphlets, commentaries, and dissertations that pertain to exegetical theology. And since that that is, exegetical theology concerns the interpretation of the oracles written by divine inspiration and guidance, this is the reason why I have assigned the first place to the Hebrew and Greek codices and enumerated their editions.
