I have commemorated those exegetical fruits of genius which all these authors of diverse kinds have excluded, not only those by which a certain subject has been explained in general, but also those by which the parts of a principal matter have been specifically treated. In order that this may be proven by example, if you wish, you may read the syllabus which I have compiled of writers of philology and sacred criticism. You will see from it that I first brought forward those who have explained this philology in a universal sense; then those whose individual books and com-
