Once the skin is removed, the muscular apparatus is seen to be very robust in the mole. The subcutaneous muscles adhere to the vertebral column through two muscular layers, such that the skin can be moved with ease. The anterior extremities are equipped with very large and powerful muscles. The musculi pectorales pectoral muscles are triple; the first pair arises from the internal crest of the humerus bone, thence it leads above the clavicles to the crest of the manubrium, where both are joined by a tendinous fascia, though they are not attached to that crest. The musculi pectorales majores et minores greater and lesser pectoral muscles are situated in their usual places, and they are no less robust and broad than in birds. The teretes majores et minores greater and lesser round muscles are not inserted into the humerus bone, as in man, but into the ulnar process, which is closer to the scapula than the humerus bone is.
