A detailed, hand-colored engraved map of the Westphalian Circle (Circulus Westphalicus) in northwestern Germany and parts of the Netherlands. The map is oriented with West at the top (Occidens), East at the bottom (Oriens), South at the left (Meridies), and North at the right (Septentrio). At the top right is an ornate scale of German miles. In the bottom right corner, a large decorative cartouche contains the map's title, surmounted by the imperial double-headed eagle. The cartouche is flanked by two men in 17th-century attire: one seated on the left pointing at the map, and one standing on the right holding a spear. The geography includes numerous cities, rivers (including the Rhine and Ems), forests, and territorial boundaries of various duchies, counties, and bishoprics.
