A detailed copperplate engraved map of the Holy Land titled "PILGRIMAGE OF JESUS CHRIST." In the top-left, a large decorative cartouche framed with scrolls and fruit contains the title and a descriptive paragraph in Dutch. The geography details the various regions of the Levant, with mountains, rivers (including the Jordan), and many cities labeled. In the upper-right corner is a scale for "Hours of walking" (distance). The bottom portion of the map depicts "THE GREAT SEA OR MIDDLE SEA" (the Mediterranean Sea) featuring two multi-masted sailing vessels, a spouting sea monster, and a compass rose. In the bottom-right corner, a separate ornate architectural inset depicts a biblical scene of figures on horseback and a donkey entering a city gate, likely the Entry into Jerusalem.
An orderly description of the Holy Land, wherein from the New Testament the Jewish people, who are there called God’s people, the Children of the Kingdom, and God’s possession, are heard to have possessed it. They held the Son of God in such high esteem that He, for the truth of God’s promise to the house of Israel, promised to confirm it in His humiliation. For this reason, His coming to us as a servant has now occurred, as it did in the days of His flesh, or to walk upon this or that land. It describes how He fulfilled His mission and pilgrimage here, which He alone could perform. Furthermore, He sent out His Apostles as to the whole world to proclaim their teachings, as long as He, through His suffering, allowed that temporary separation, because he had use of the promise.
