How much importance the doctrine of Paul the Apostle ought to have among all pious people, Christian reader, this one thing sufficiently indicates: that in all ages, as many as there have been, the enemies of light and truth have stretched every nerve of their intellect primarily toward this goal, either to overturn it openly or to pervert it craftily. They are surely men worthy of being enveloped by God in the shadows of blindness and madness when they approach the Scriptures in such a way that they either attempt to twist them violently or hate them furiously unless they follow them according to their own judgment. But, in turn, the singular providence of God must be recognized; he has always raised up pious teachers, especially in this age of ours, by whom these sacred mysteries have been so clearly illustrated that there is now no place for obscurity.
