Concerning Christ’s ascension into the heavens

It was most convenient, good Jesus, that you should rise from the dead into an immortal and incorruptible life, and that you should gloriously elevate your assumed nature of humanity into heaven, which is an incorruptible place and a congruent dwelling for immortals, and that you should make it so much higher above the heavens as you then made it the first-fruits compared to other creatures. It was fitting, moreover, for the perfecting of the integrity of our faith. It was indeed fitting, after you had proven yourself Lord of all things that are on earth, in the sea, and in the underworld, that you should prove yourself Lord of the heavens, so that now by merit it ought to be that in your name every knee should bend, of those in heaven, on earth, and in the underworld, and every tongue should confess that you are in the glory and at the right hand of the Father Philippians 2:10-11. It was fitting, furthermore, good Jesus, that you should ascend glorious into heaven, so that you might lead us into the possession of heaven, which you purchased for us with your precious blood.
