of both? We are begotten from Adam and Eve, who are attributed to the Trinity, that is, to God who is three in persons. But Adam [was created] immediately, as Luke says: Enos was the son of Seth, and Seth was the son of Adam, and Adam was the son of God. Eve, however, mediately, because she was made from the rib of Adam.
Of what case? [The case of] sin and of obedience. Behold what we are according to ourselves: we have proceeded from sinners and we are sinners. These are the genders and cases; these two are the participle from the noun.
Of what tense? Present, because in the present time penance must be done and we must labor for a future reward.
Of what signification? First, active, namely, by doing good works. Second, passive, by patiently suffering evils. Third, neuter, namely, by restraining perverse virtues and thoughts. Fourth, deponent, namely, by casting off all mortal vices. Fifth, common, namely, by keeping the commandments of God and the ordinances of the Holy Church. These two, namely tenses and significations, are taken here by the participle in the verb. See therefore how we ought to be according to God.
With the particle of number, namely, that in this Church militant we may be counted with the just, and in the Church triumphant with the angels
