there, "with him"; the third there, "to the wedding." Regarding the first: Matthew 25, "Come, you blessed, possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Regarding the second: 1 Thessalonians 4, "We will always be with the Lord, without whom nothing good and with whom nothing bad can exist." John 17: "Father, those whom you gave me, I will that where I am, they also may be with me and see my glory which you gave me." Regarding the third: Psalm 66 Vulgate numbering; Psalm 67 in modern Bibles, "Rejoice with her with joy, all you who mourn with her," that is, with the peaceful and joyful society of all the good, so that you may be filled from the breasts of her consolation and abound in the delights of all manner of her glory. Amen.

"Come, eat my bread." Treat your cause, etc., as in the first sermon: "The sacrifice of Juda and Jerusalem shall please the Lord, as that of the king and the militia," that is, of Christ and the Church. Malachias 3. The second cause of the institution of the sacrament of the Lord's body is the sacrifice of the altar, so that the Church might have a gift to offer to God for divine worship, precious and acceptable above all sacrifices. Regarding the sacrifice of the altar, three things can be noted: namely, the form of offering, the question concerning legal sacrifice, and the excellence of our sacrifice. Of the first two, it can be spoken here, and of the third in the following [sermon]. Firstly, the form of the sacrifice is to be noted, and this is threefold. The first is in the prefiguration of the oblation of the ancients; the second is in the truth of human form; the third is in the species of bread and wine. The first is adapted to the synagogue under the law; the second is offered to divine charity on the cross; the third is consecrated to the faithful soul at the table of the Church. The first was given as a sign; the second as a price; the third as a consolation. Regarding the first: Leviticus 4 Leviticus 4: "If all the multitude of Israel shall sin through ignorance, let them offer a calf for their sin," that is, Christ, says the gloss, "but this was not in the person, but in figure." Similarly, Exodus 12 Exodus 12: "The unspotted lamb which they killed in the Passover, and whose flesh they ate, was a figure of Christ," as Gregory says. Regarding the second form: Psalm 53 Psalm 53 Vulgate numbering; Psalm 54 in modern Bibles: "As a sheep led to the slaughter, he was wounded for our iniquities; he was offered because he himself willed it." This is truly according to human form on the cross. Hebrews 10 Hebrews 10: "We are sanctified through the oblation of the body of Jesus Christ once," namely, on the cross. Regarding the third: Psalm 109 Psalm 109 Vulgate numbering; Psalm 110 in modern Bibles: "You are a priest according to the order of Melchisedech." Genesis 14 Genesis 14: "He offered bread and wine." Thus Christ gives his body and blood in the sacrifice of the Church under the species of bread and wine. Matthew 26 Matthew 26: "Jesus took bread and blessed it and said, this is my body; and taking the chalice," that is, the vessel with wine, "he gave thanks, saying, this is my blood." Secondly, the question concerning legal sacrifice is to be noted.
