1st Sunday
¶ On the first Sunday of the Advent of the Lord is the Gospel: When Jesus had drawn near to Jerusalem, etc. Matthew 21. In which mention is made of the advent of Christ in the flesh, when it is said: Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold your King comes to you, etc. From this, the following questions may be disputed: First: Whether it was necessary for the salvation of the human race that God be incarnate. Second: Whether, if man had not sinned, God would have been incarnate. Third: Whether it was more fitting for the Son of God to be incarnate than any other person.
2nd Sunday
¶ On the second Sunday is the Gospel: There will be signs in the sun and moon, etc. Luke 21. In which, because the advent of Christ to judgment is touched upon, the following questions may be disputed: First: Whether a general judgment will come to pass. Second: Whether all those to be judged will see the Son of Man, that is, Christ in his glorious human form judging. Third: Whether the signs assigned in the Gospel reading precede the judgment. Fourth: Whether the time of the future judgment can be definitely known by any man.
3rd Sunday
¶ On the third Sunday is the Gospel: When John had heard in prison the works of Christ, etc. Matthew 11. Regarding this, the following questions occur to be disputed: First: Whether blessed John the Baptist doubted whether Christ was the one who was to be sent as the Savior of the world. Second: Whether Christ answered fittingly to the question of John when he says: Tell John, The blind see, etc. Third: Whether blessed John was more than a prophet.
4th Sunday
¶ On the fourth Sunday is the Gospel: At that time, the Jews sent from Jerusalem, etc. John 1. Regarding this, it can be
disputed as follows:
Ember Days
¶ First: Whether blessed John answered well to the interrogation of the priests and levites who asked, Who are you? Second: Whether it was fitting for John to baptize. Third: Whether it was fitting that Christ should live among men.
Friday, 6th day
¶ On the Wednesday of the Ember Days is that Gospel: Luke 1, The angel was sent. Regarding this, inquire for the questions to be disputed in the feast of the Annunciation of Mary.
Saturday
¶ On Friday is the Gospel: Mary arising, etc. Luke 1. Regarding the dispute over this, inquire in the feast of the Visitation of Mary.
¶ On Saturday is the Gospel: In the 15th year, etc. Luke 3. John came into the whole region of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Regarding this, it comes to be disputed: Whether the baptism of John conferred grace.
Vigil
¶ On the Vigil of the Nativity of Christ is the Gospel: At that time, when his mother Mary was betrothed, etc. Matthew 1. Regarding this, many questions would come to be disputed, among which are those that follow: First: Whether Christ ought to have been conceived of a betrothed virgin.
¶ Second: Whether there was a perfect marriage between Mary and Joseph.
¶ Third: Whether said marriage was ever consummated. Fourth: Whether Christ is to be called conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Nativity
¶ On the day of the Nativity of the Lord there are three Gospels, and so regarding each one, some questions occur to be disputed. Regarding the first, namely: At that time, A decree went out, Luke 2, the following questions: First: Whether any temporal birth is to be attributed to Christ. Second: Whether, according to the temporal birth, the blessed Virgin can be called the mother of Christ. Third: Whether Christ was born at a fitting time and place.
