The Pharisees departing, etc. Matthew 22. Regarding this, the following questions can be disputed. First: Whether tribute should be given to Caesar, or to a secular prince. Second: Whether we are all held to offer sacrifices to God. Third: Whether Christ fittingly answered the Pharisees questioning him whether it is permitted to give tribute to Caesar, saying to them: Why do you test me, etc.
¶ On the twenty-fourth Sunday is the Gospel: As Jesus was speaking, etc. Matthew 9. And since in the Gospel there is mention of two miracles, it can be disputed concerning both. Regarding the first: Whether without the touch of divine grace the soul can be resurrected from the death of sin. Second: Whether the touch precedes the expulsion of sin without the infusion of grace. Regarding the second: Whether it is attributed more fittingly to the operation of faith in miracles than to another virtue.
¶ On the feast of Blessed Andrew the Gospel is: Jesus walking, etc. Matthew 4. Regarding this, the following questions can be disputed. First: Whether he fittingly called Peter and Andrew and James of Zebedee and John to the office of preaching.
¶ Second: Whether it is necessary for those following Christ to leave behind all temporal things. Third: Whether Blessed Andrew and the others who were called with him were called to the apostolate by this calling.
¶ On the feast of Blessed Nicholas the Gospel is: Let your loins be girded, etc. Luke 12. Regarding this, this question comes to be disputed: Whether Blessed Nicholas had such burning lamps, that is, the perfection of holy works in his hands, that it is believed he received the effect of grace beyond the common law from his cradle in baptism.
¶ On the feast of Blessed Thomas the Apostle the Gospel is: Thomas, however, one of the twelve, etc. John 20. Regarding this, the following questions can be disputed. First: Whether faith is of things seen. Second: Whether Thomas was held by necessity of salvation to confess the faith of divinity and humanity in Christ while the Lord appeared to him and said: Thomas, etc.
¶ Third: Whether it is praiseworthy to believe those things which we have not seen.
¶ On the feast of Blessed Stephen the Gospel is: At that time, Jesus said to the crowds of the Jews, etc. Matthew 23. Regarding this, the following questions can be disputed. First: Whether Christ fittingly sent to the Jews prophets, scribes, and wise men, knowing and foretelling that they would be killed by the Jews. ¶ Second: Whether Stephen, living in this life, saw God through his essence.
¶ On the feast of Blessed John the Evangelist the Gospel is: Jesus said to Peter, etc. John 21. Regarding this, the following questions can be disputed. First: Whether Christ loved John more than Peter. Second: Whether Blessed John died.
¶ On the feast of the Innocents the Gospel is: At that time, An angel appeared in sleep to Joseph, etc. Matthew 2. Regarding this, these things can be disputed. First: Whether the Innocents are truly called martyrs of Christ. Second: Whether the baptism of blood supplies the defect of the baptism of water.
¶ On the feast of Saint Thomas of Canterbury the Gospel is: Unless the grain of wheat, etc. John 12. Regarding this, the following questions can be disputed. First: Whether Thomas, Archbishop of Canterbury, served Christ by seeking the things of his Church with scandal to the King of England. Second: Whether Saint Thomas, in this administration, by undergoing death, merited to be honored by the heavenly Father with the crown of martyrdom.
