condemn us rashly and thoughtlessly based on light and fabricated rumors. From both, therefore, we ask that they not pass judgment so precipitously on men and unknown deeds. For if they were to weigh all the circumstances of the matter, while they do us an injury, they inflict a greater one upon themselves by failing to guard against the guile of the devil, who attempts to distance them by such scandals, and to lead them away from the right path by bringing into hatred the word of God, which is the only thing that contains their salvation. We also wish it to be testified that it is our intention, and we vehemently desire, that our cause be known by everyone. For just as we enjoy a right and upright conscience before God and His angels, we are not ashamed to be known as we are by all creatures. Therefore, we ask outsiders
