and at the same time take care that we do not approve of any mixture by which the worship of God has been adulterated. If anyone asks what these additions are, and why we detest them so greatly, we are prepared to describe them one by one. But since we are excluded from the opportunity of proving them, what kind of humanity is it, after all, to pass judgment on an unknown matter? We believe, therefore, that one must entirely shrink from such pollutions, so that we may be joined to the Lord Jesus Christ in true purity of spirit. For however much many may put forward empty subtleties and grant themselves leave, woe to those who give to evil the appearance of approval, especially when it concerns the worship of God and the confession of His holy name, which is too precious to be valued at so little.
