is, to give to each his own: by which it is distinguished and separated from cognate forms, prudence and temperance: which themselves are also virtues, no less than Justice, as far as their common genus is concerned.

Division is the distribution either of a genus into species, or of a whole into parts.

Genus into species.

Example of Genus into species: as when Virtue is divided into justice, prudence, fortitude, and temperance. Animal into its species, with differences added: as, of animals, one is rational, as man: another is irrational, as a lion, a tiger.
